Otaku Clothing

Although the traditional Japanese clothing is beautiful and complex, Otakus also have their own dress style. According to “Japanese Traditional Clotting” article, the traditional Japanese outfit is formed by different pieces of clothing which are kimono, nagajuban, hakama, tabi and zori. The kimono is a long coat made of silk which covers the entire body. The nagajuban that is a kind of kimono but it is worn under the kimono to avoid mess it up. The hakama are pleated pants that look like a skirt. The tabi are traditional socks that have a division between the big toe and the rest of the toes. Finally, we can find the zori that are the flat sandals which can be made of leather, rice straw, plant fibers and others. On the other hand, the Otakus wears their outfits depending on what they want to express. The majority of the members of this social group like to wear black or dark clothing. If they like k-pop, pop Japanese music, Otakus would dress jazzy pieces of clothing. The outfit usually has stripes with polka dots, orange and purple shoes and crazy hair style, so it does not matter how crazy people look. Another kind of Otakus fashion style is the cosplay. The word cosplay is a compound word that comes from costume and play. The art of cosplay consist on dressing like people’s favorite anime and manga character which are Japanese caricatures that readers can find in the books. In brief, Otaku dress style is unique and people in Costa Rica are getting it very well.
